The LC350 National Quilt Day, Lecture;
"Down by the Old Mill Stream"
LC350 hosted a lecture by Professor Linda Welters, at the Little Compton Community Center on National Quilt Day, March 15, 2025.
Linda Welters, is a Professor of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design at the University of Rhode Island where she teaches courses in the history of fashion. She directs the department’s graduate program. Her research interests encompass Greek folk dress, archaeological textiles, American quilts, American fashion, and decolonizing fashion history. Her presentation was drawn from a book she co-edited with Margaret Ordonez, Down by the Old Mill Stream: Quilts in Rhode Island, published by Kent State University Press in 2000. Quilts made in Little Compton were highlighted.
The Little Compton Historical Society generously provided quilts from their collection to display at the event.
A reception followed the lecture in the Little Compton Community Center.
