LC350 is proud to present a lecture by Kate Kelly, The Photo Angel, on Saturday, May 17th from 2:00PM-4:00PM at the Little Compton Community Center.
Kate’s journey to becoming the Photo Angel began when she found a pile of labeled photos of non-relatives mixed in with her grandparents’ old photos. Were they Friends? Classmates? War buddies? Neighbors? She was determined to find out. So, she started looking through genealogy websites and immediately began connecting with relatives of the photographed! She was then hooked and began picking up labeled photos at antique shops to identify them and return them to their families. She was then officially dubbed “The Photo Angel!” The Photo Angel Project celebrates success stories and inspires others to get out their old photos from dusty attics, visit antique stores and find photos with identifying information, and using the tools Kate suggests, try to send these photos home again! Kate has been able to return photos to families and historical societies in all fifty states.
Kate’s website, THE PHOTO ANGEL, now hosts over 33,000 members, all who are inspired by what Kate does, and many have become photo angels themselves, proudly displaying their accomplishments on this site.
She has been featured in the Bristol, Ct. press while visiting their Historical Society; she wrote and published an article on The Photo Angel project for the Utah Genealogical Association’s Crossroads Magazine (Winter 2024) and has been invited to serve as a monthly contributor to Italian Roots Newsletter. Kate has done many in-person and Zoom presentations including The Falmouth Massachusetts Genealogical Society, the Mansfield, Ma. Public Library, Daughters of American Colonists in Westwood, Ma., the Palm Creek, Arizona Genealogy Club, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery and Fort Cooper Chapter NSDAR of Inverness, Florida, the Millis, Ma. Public Library, the Chief Justice Cushing Chapter DAR in Scituate, Ma. She will be continuing her speaking engagements in 2025 in addition to Little Compton’s 350th Anniversary lecture, at the Greater Cleveland Geneaological Society, the Rockford, Illinois Chapter of the NSDAR, The Museum of Work and Culture’s Valley Series in Woonsocket, the Geneaological Research Institute of Virginia, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Cobb County, Georgia Geneaological Society, the Scituate Preservation Society, and more.
Kate also has two other sites: THE PHOTO ANGEL YOUTUBE CHANNEL, and Heirloom Show and Tell on Facebook. The latter encourages others to share their family heirlooms and stories that have been handed down for generations to help make history come alive.
The Photo Angel lecture for LC350 on Saturday, May 17th from 2:00PM-4:00PM at the Little Compton Community Center is free and open to the public.
